The N-3 utility jacket saw light for the first time in 1943 as part of a 4-piece utility uniform together with a shirt, trousers and cap. Lots of units was issued this uniform by the US navy - construction battalions, combat- and amphibious units among others. The N-3 jacket doesn't differ much from its predecessor the USMC P-1941 uniform jacket that also was made of Herringbone twill.
