We are proud to present a leather workshop in collaboration with Michael Gärtner, also known as Lone Wolf Leather and the author of the book ”Lone Wolf Läderarbete”. We are happy to invite you to an evening in the creative area of our store, where Michael will share knowledge and inspire you to engage in this fascinating area of craftsmanship. Our goal is to give you an insight into the art of leather crafting and to teach you skills and techniques that you can take with you on your own creative journey.
Over the course of the evening you will learn a lot of useful information about all aspects of leather crafting but you won't leave with just new insight - you will also leave with your own new leather belt that you've made yourself, cut in a length that will be a perfect size for you! The width of the belt will be 3,8 cm.
The workshop is conducted in Swedish, it is three hours long and includes:
18:00-18:20 Introduction. Over a cup of coffee we talk about the tanning process used in the making of leather from raw hides. We'll teach how leather can differ depending on what part of the animal it comes from, what the different parts of the leather hides are suitable for as well as how different types of leather can all come from the same hide.
18:20-21:00 - Showtime! You will be guided through the following steps: - A short presentation of the material and the tools used - Chose your style! Natural tanned or black leather, the brass buckles comes in three different styles and in color option brass or nickel (see picture) - How to properly cut the leather for a belt - The making and usage of templates for the project - Measuring and and cutting the leather in a proper length - Attaching the buckle to the belt - Preparing edges for burnishing as well as polishing them
At the end of the evening our aim is that everyone will have made their own personal leather belt!
The workshop is suitable for beginners, so no previous knowledge required. You will be supplied with all the information, tools and materials needed to make your own belt, as well as recommendation and tips on how to further progress in the art of leather crafting! We will be using vegetable tanned leather from the Swedish tannery Tärnsjö Garveri that are famous for their high quality leathers that age beautifully over time.
