Sugar Cane & Co is a Japanese brand focusing on reconstructing the early days of vintage workwear history. The brand has roots that goes back to the 1950's but it wasen't until the late 80's that Sugar Cane started building the reputation for being one of the best denim makers in Japan and it is a reputation they still deserve!
One thing we really admire about Sugar Cane is the effort they put behind their garments, doing their best to recreate functional clothing from the past. They don't change too much but rather preserve the garments style and feeling!
This Short Sleeve Double Weave Shirt is inspired by work shirts from the middle of the last century and it got it's name from the weaving technique used to make the fabric. A Double woven cloth is made by using two separate sets of warp and weft that are combined in the weaving process to make the fabric. One could describe it as two fabrics that are combined into one. It is most visible when comparing the inside and the outside of the shirt then you can see that it is actually like two separate fabrics.
The shirt has two chest pockets and glass buttons. The beautiful textile along with the thoughtful weaving technique is really what makes this shirt something special. The combination of earthly tones with the yellow really makes one think of warm summer days and even if this shirt finds it's inspiration in the past it looks just as modern today. Combine it with jeans, chinos or a pair of shorts and you will be ready for summer no matter if you are hading to the beach or just enjoying strolling the streets around your neighborhood!
