The Japanese brand Buzz Rickson's are one of few high-end reproduction manufacturers of military and casual garments. And they sure do it good! They strive to make true replicas by carefully researching and analyzing original vintage garments, taking great care to duplicate the materials used. They pay close attention to quality with the goal to bring back old forgotten techniques and machines needed to make garments of outstanding quality without compromises.
The B-10 flight jacket was first made in 1943, and it is the earliest variants of cloth jackets that came to replace the leather flight jackets used by the USAAF. B-10 was made of a sturdy olive cloth and fully lined with alpacka wool to make sure that the warming capacity remained. The B-10 was made to be much lighter and more versatile than the jackets they replaced so it instantly became a susses and appreciated by the pilots that wore them! Ideally suited be used for early spring, late fall and winter.
In late 1944 the B-10 was replaced by the improved B-15 jacket so even though the jacket was popular, it did not have a very long production time. However, it is said that it became a favorite of many and that it was used throughout World War II and that some even wore them during the Vietnam War. An original B-10 jacket is today very rare to find and is considered a highly sought after jacket by collectors.
The name Superior Togs comes from one of the manufacturers who was contracted to sew these and the more common versions of B-10 jackets was usually made with olive green knit parts, but for this particular model the company untilised rust coloured knit which gave it a most distinctive look. This version is based on a rare vintage original. The jacket has two large front pockets, one inner pocket, a Conmatic zipper, alpacka wool lining, rusty red knits and a mount-fur collar.
Buzz Rickson's has carefully reproduced this garment according to the original ones worn by the US Navy with all the wartime specifications. We would even say that this reproduction is even better than the originals when it comes to attention behind the construction and the making of the garment!
