Tender Lost Wax Cast Bronze Slow Worm Keyring

Tender’s slow worm keyring is lost wax-cast in England from solid bronze, and fitted onto a brass-plated steel keyring.

To produce this slow worm keyring, Tender’s jeweller created the master with hand tools, from modelling wax. This needs to be in two parts, the head and air pipe at the front and the body at the back. This is so that a space can be sealed inside to allow the air to return on itself and sound a note. These master sections are then used to make a mould, into which wax is poured. The waxes of each section are packed in plaster, and molten brass is run in, melting away the wax and hardening inside the plaster. The plaster is then broken away and the pieces are filed and cleaned up.

The slow worm is a legless lizard in, Sweden we know it as Kopparödla which is fairly common in booth UK and Sweden as well and the keyring is life size for a young slow worm.The body loops around a brass-plated steel split keyring, and the Tender Plautus face logo is hand-engraved onto the belly. Bronze is a similar alloy to brass, but with a higher copper content, making it slightly pinker initially. With age bronze will develop a particularly rich, dark, patina.
