Sun Surf Rayon Hawaiian Shirt Moorish Idol

The Sun Surf brand is known for making the finest reproductions of classical Hawaiian shirts today. These shirts are carefully reproduced with a big attention to details when it comes to the patterns, fabrics and fits of the fantastic shirts produced in Hawaii from the 30's to the 50's. If you compare these shirts to an original vintage one it will be hard to tell the difference! 

This is a reproduction of a vintage Hawaiian shirt produced in the 30's. Around the mid-1930s, "ANDRADE" was a high-end men's clothing store that opened a store in downtown Honolulu. There were a number of Aloha shirt manufacturers in the area around the store, and it gained popularity by selling shirts ordered from these manufacturers. In 1948, ANDRADE opened a store specializing in Aloha shirts and other resort wear in the Royal Hawaiian Hotel in Waikiki, establishing an unwavering position as a high-end store. The original of this Aloha shirt with the "Kihi Kihi fish" (English name: Moorish Idol), a very popular motif for Aloha shirts, was made for the Waikiki store and became very popular at the time.

Rayon is a semi-synthetic cellulosic fiber that has been used in textiles since 1899 and is among others known as the go to textile for Hawaiian shirts. The secret that makes Rayon perfect for warmer temperatures comes from the characteristics of the fibre. It's soft, smooth, comfortable and some what shiny. Compared to cotton, Rayon is a less absorbent fibre making it perfect to wear in humid climates and in warmer weather. It isn’t a naturally warm fabric, which means that it doesn’t retain heat. It will stay cool and breathable, a necessity during the hottest days of summer.
