Vintage Swedish Army Shearling Survival Coat "Livpäls M/1916"

This is a very rare vintage coat used by the Swedish Army, designed to be worn on top of military gear during the harsh Scandinavian winter. This is one of the oldest versions of the iconic sheep skin coat (unlike the more commonly seen successors made of canvas and lined with sheep skin). Coat pockets and button loops are made of white cotton canvas - one of many nice details on this rare find. The collar can be raised to protect neck and ears from cold winds and it can by detached as well.

As a curiosity we might mention that this garment was used as inspiration when designing the coat worn by Bane in the Batman movie "The Dark Knight" from 2008!

This coat is vintage and approximately a hundred years old. Time has left its mark, leaving the leather too brittle to wear. One sleeve in particular has become paper thin and cracks easily (see picture). However, this is a very rare find that we are thrilled to have in store. We hope it will leave us for a new home in a private collection, a museum or perhaps as stage props.
