The Japanese brand Buzz Rickson's are one of few high-end reproduction manufacturers of military and casual garments. And they sure do it good! They strive to make true replicas by carefully researching and analyzing original vintage garments, taking great care to duplicate the materials used. They pay close attention to quality with the goal to bring back old forgotten techniques and machines needed to make garments of outstanding quality without compromises.
The 30s submariner woolen coat is considered the most rare and sought after vintage jacket today, as these were made for US Navy submariners in a time period before ww2. It goes without saying that not too many was produced, which means that a vintage original today will have a high price tag if you happen to come across one.
The design of the jacket is simple and that's also what makes it appealing and functional to wear as an everyday jacket. The jacket is unlined to make it easy to wear on its own but also as a layering garment. All the inner seams has been covered in a beautiful way with black binding tape of cotton. The jacket has a stand up collar with a chin strap to keep it in place and it has two large front pockets. The heavy worsted-wool is reproduced to look and feel like the original using vintage machinery for the weaving. The wool feels thick, dens and still a tiny bit greasy, which we appreciate because it is exactly what you want of a wool jacket that is made to keep you warm in foul weather.
Buzz Rickson's has carefully reproduced this garment according to the original ones worn by the US Navy with all the wartime specifications. We would even say that this reproduction is even better than the originals when it comes to attention behind the construction and the making of the garment!
