Super "Denim" is a new project launched by Sugar Cane and the well known Japanese vintage denim collector, Mr. Shigeki Wakita. Under his supervision, Sugar Cane has developed new fabrics, trims, and patterns based on the rare-to find dead stock vintage garments from Mr. Wakita's collection. The goal of the project was to produce perfect duplications of the historically, original vintage garments by faithfully replicating all details such as war-time iron buckles, imperfect sewing stitches, and rough and uneven stitch counts. Simply to recreate them exactly as they looked in the past.

Sloppy sewing is in itself is no art, but recreating the sloppiness in a correct way and doing it in a whole production is much more difficult, on the other hand, and we can't say anything other than that we are very impressed with how well Sugar Cane has managed to accomplish this on these garments.

For several decades, Japanese jeans makers have recreated American garments better than the originals, still paying tribute to the vibrancy that hides in old jeans garments. In this collection, Sugar Cane has gone all the way and shows us that when these jeans was made in the the middle of the last century you didn't care too much about perfection, it was after all workwear garments.

The 1943 Denim Waist Overalls is a complete duplication of Mr. Yakiya's vintage jeans made in the year 1943, which was the strictest year for US domestic material control during World War II. The jeans feature an extremely rough and uneven denim fabric, military-standard donut buttons and iron rivets. The rivets on the coin pocket have been omitted, and the concealed rivets are not plated and remain the same color as the iron material. The pocket bag fabric is flannel that most likely was a leftover at the mill. Probably due to a shortage of skilled workers, the stitching is very rough with uneven widths of stitches. The left side selvage has been folded while hemming, which would normally be regarded as a failure or second grade in ordinary times eaven back in the 40's.

Dan is 188 cm tall, weighs 84 kilos and wears size W 34.

Hemming is always included when you purchase a pair of jeans from us! Give us a comment during check out and we will shorten them before we send them. Keep in mind that you won't be able to return the jeans if we alter the length for you. For hemming, we'll use a vintage Union Special chain stitch sewing machine, to match the original seam of the jeans. (and of course we will sew them just as carelessly if you wish to have them hemmed).
