Sun Surf Oahu Garment Co. Palaka Check Daisy Mae Hat
Sun Surf is a sub brand of Sugar Cane & Co, a Japanese brand well known for their focus on reconstructing the early days of vintage workwear history. The brand has roots that goes back to the 1950's but it wasn't until late 80's that Sugar Cane started building the reputation for being one of the best denim makers in Japan and it is a reputation they still deserve!
This is Sun Surf's version of a classic Palaka check daisy mae hat. If one thinks about the clothing history in Hawaii most people are familiar with the Hawaiian shirts, and even if Palaka garments are not as famous they are still equally associated with the history of Hawaii. Used as a workers garment, uniform or for casual use and worn by children, teenagers and seniors the Palaka is referred to as the Hawaiian denim!
Oahu Garment Company was founded in 1924. They where located on North King Street, just like Union Supply & Sailormoku Products. The company was focused on overalls, denim, sailor pants and Palaka jackets. They have been providing protective garment for plantation workers in Hawaii for a very long time.
The fabric is a 10oz woven checked cotton in navy and white in a classic Palaka style. These hats have been washed and please note that each hat might differ a bit in actual color, but because of this it will not shrink.
