The B-9 Winter Flight Parka was standardized on July 22nd 1943, and produced to 1944, the B-9 was the first cloth parka used by the USAAF.
As World War II broke out and the number of soldiers increased, the development of a highly productive jacket became urgent.
Securing mouton for the hood became difficult in this period, and with the revision of production costs, cotton twill was selected for the outer fabric.
The back has an elastic strip incorporated in the lining to keep the fit snug on the body, while drawstrings at the hood, and the sleeves fitted with wool knit cuffs further add to insulative qualities. The 2 sets of pockets are wool-lined, and a button-down storm flap seals the zipper front from the biting winds.
This is an original vintage jacket from the middle of the last century. Every part of the jacket is in good shape given it's age accept the lining in the hood, it's made of sheep skin that has dried over the years and part of it has fallen off (see picture). Our recommendation would be to see if this could be replaced. The jacket also has a small repair nex to one of the hand warmer pockets on the chest (see picture).
