Indigo has been used in many different cultures all around the world and in Africa there is a long tradition of making indigo dyed clothing and fabrics using a variety of different techniques. This textile comes from the Baulé people from Côte d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast) and it made of hand-woven strips of cotton fabric that have been stitched together in order to make a bigger piece of fabric. The pattern is a so called ikat, where parts of the threads are covered before the dyeing, which gives a pattern that will appear later in the weaving process.

Here's the great Baulé fabric in a size perfect to wear as a scarf.
