The Japanese brand Buzz Rickson's are today counted among the few high-end reproduction manufacturers of military and casual garments in the world. They strive to make true replicas by carefully researching and analyzing original vintage garments, taking great care to duplicate the material while paying close attention to technique and quality. Their goal is to bring back old forgotten techniques and machines needed to make garments of outstanding quality without compromises.
When WWII broke out, the US enacted the Lend-Lease Act from 1941 to 1945. Supplies were supplied to the UK, the Soviet Union, China, France and other allied nations. In particular, the UK received huge supplies in exchange for providing bases to the US. These trousers were born under such circumstances, and are historic trousers manufactured by the US military from the battle trousers used by the British Army. The "WA" on the label stands for WAR AID. The two buckles attached to the waist, the belt loops for a wide belt, and the asymmetrical pockets of different sizes on the front and their positions give them a unique taste of the British Army that is not found in the American military.
The fabric is a nice and sturdy 8,2 oz cotton herringbone twill, a fabric that got its name because the texture resembles the skeleton of a herring. This weaving technique is most commonly used in wool textiles and for more dressed up suits, but during the 1940's and 1950's it was also used in the military and and in work wear garments. The fit is wide and roomy with a tilted waist. Since the top close comes with a belt adjuster, the waist size can be adjusted a bit.
