This is Buzz Rickson's version of a 1960's US Army Tropical jacket. This jacket was worn by the US Navy and the US Army during Vietnam war and the thin cotton was ideal to wear in order to withstand the tropical climate in warmer regions. The jacket has four large front pockets that are generously shaped in order to store plenty of necessities. The two chest pockets are slanted which makes them easier to reach into, a detail that's commonly used on garments where the wearer might be occupied with one hand and is often seen on military garments and motorcycle jackets.
The William Gibson collection has its basis in the long time interest of military garments which the author William Gibson has. In his novel "Pattern Recognition" the protagonist Cayce Pollard was described wearing an all black Buzz Rickson's MA-1 Flight Jacket. This led to Buzz Rickson's receiving many requests for this particular jacket and as the jacket historically had not been produced in black, Buzz decided to launch a brand new collection. The William Gibson tribute collection is an all black version of these military reproductions.
The fabric is a lightweight, fine weave high density cotton. It is protective and durable but still breathable when worn in warm climates with a high moisture. One can almost say that this jacket is right in-between a shirt and a jacket, making it just perfect to wear as a layering garment on colder days or as a thinner jacket during the warm days of summer. No matter how you wear it we are sure that it will come handy with it's functional and most classical design.
