Working with the rölakan technique, I wanted to explore it’s possibilities beyond the diagonal and square lines. How many different directions could I keep track on in the same weft? Could I build up a diagonal on one side and a layered/“fingered” square on the other side? Could I brake it up, change colors, incorporate new elements and then redo it one more time? Turns out, I could. This design has no cultural or traditional context, it’s entirely made up in my mind, visualized through my hands. Weaving can sometimes be like that - a winding trail up and down, taking turns and surprising with discoveries in a most rewarding way. A treasure trail - just like swimming and watching sea foam dance under the surface of the Baltic ocean or hiking up a mountain, savoring the special scent of sun warm pine needles in your nose."
