Sugar Cane is a Japanese brand focusing on reconstructing the early days of vintage workwear history. The brand has roots that goes back to the 1950's but it wasn't until the late 80's that Sugar Cane started building the reputation for being one of the best denim makers in Japan and it is a reputation they still deserve!

This unique jacket is really something special and we are happy to have a few of them in the store this season! The style is inspired by vintage chore coats from the early 1900s with lots of details to prove it. On of them is the removable buttons, a feature that was commonly used back in the days before the invention of stainless steel to prevent the buttons from damaging the garment with rust when washed. The jacket has two large front pockets.

What makes this jacket something extra is the fabric! It is a 10 oz indigo dyed denim that has been woven with a pattern inspired by Native American weaving traditions, combined with the know-how of denim industry. By dyeing the threads in different shades before they are woven into a fabric, and then weaving on a digital loom that offers the possibility to control each thread separately a pattern emerges that is beautifully detailed in both color and structure.
The fabric almost gets a 3D effect and it is a simple pleasure to look at the pattern and the different shades of indigo dyed threads that builds up the fabric. It sure will be interesting to see how this jacket will age and turn out after being used for many years. We suspect that it will look just amazing with time!
