Gråbrodern is a Swedish clothing brand rooted firmly on the limestone rock they come from – the island of Gotland in the Baltic Sea. With roots deep in global premium denim and a focus on interpreting vintage clothing in a relevant and modern way, the main inspiration comes from local Gotlandic vintage workwear from the days of old – a century ago.
When we first saw the Norrgårde jacket we were very impressed. In a world full of American inspired replicas of old workwear, it's really nice to see someone looking for inspiration elsewhere. Johan the founder of Gråbrodern spent a lot of time looking through image archives of workers from the Swedish island Gotland in the 19th century and found several examples of this type of work blouse being worn by various craft guilds.
The jacket is designed more or less exactly as it looks in these antique photographs and it is only when you button the waistband button that the jacket takes shape, it's snug at the waist as intended and gives a spacious and comfortable width in the upper body. When you wear it you can really understand that it was a popular work jacket in its time.
We are impressed by how well Gråbrodern has managed to recreate a classic Swedish work garment in a new expression that feels very contemporary.
The fabric is a nice and heavy black Italian twill that really feels like the perfect choice of fabric for the fit.
Douglas is 180 cm tall, weighs 87 kilos and wears a size M. He combines the jacket with a pair of Gråbrodern Eke Chino Italian Black Twill, Buzz Rickson's chambray shirt and a pair of custom White's Dress Boots.
