In the autumn of 2022 our colleague Lisa Gerholm published her book "Bygga Bastu". Guess if we were happy when we heard that the Japanese book publisher Graphic-Sha Publishing Co. Ltd wanted to publish it and release it in Japan! Now it has finally arrived and we are happy to have it in store.
Did you also dream about building your own sauna but never really knew where to start? This handbook will guide you through the entire process, from the first hammer strike to the first splash of water on the sauna stones.
All aspects of the building process are treated step by step and are interspersed with carpentry tips and construction plans. You will learn about the most important tools and how to cast a simple concrete foundation, build a fair and square frame, lay a roof, insulate and nail wall cladding.
In addition, Lisa shows you how to build a door, restore windows and make your own paint. If you already have a sauna, you can use the plans and construction guides to build a garden shack, a tool shed or perhaps a smaller greenhouse. The inspirational chapter gives you a taste of other creative sauna constructions – for example traditional smoke saunas in the Finnish archipelago and a floating sauna in Stockholm city.
