This shirt made by Momotaro is made of a indigo dyed woven fabric in sashiko style. Sashiko is a textile tradition from Japan and the idea is to use embroidery to strengthen fabrics. This could be used when repairing or just to reinforcing textiles while also adding warmth by building up layers of fabric and thread. Most often these embroideries were made using cotton or hemp thread.
Double weave sashiko fabric dyed in indigo is used. The double weave is characterized by deep dark blue threads on the front and beautiful asagi-colored threads on the back. This durable fabric is also used for kendo wear. In terms of design, in addition to the piping tailoring that takes advantage of the thickness of the fabric, pockets with reinforced fabric from the lining, and three-piece tailored sleeves for ease of movement, you can feel the attention to detail that balances functionality and beauty.
