North Sea Clothing is known for manufacturing some of the best knitted wool garments around. The founder Neil Starr has a long background of selling vintage menswear and this way he came to recognize what good quality is, so when the classic Submariner wool sweater started to get hard to find he decided to bring this iconic piece back to production once again!
The Original Submariner sweater was War Office issue to the Royal Navy in both WW1 and WW2, and was used by the North Atlantic convoys to keep out the bitter chill. RAF pilots used them under an Irvin flight jacket.
Post 1945, motorcyclists adopted submariner sweaters for insulation beneath leather and waxed cotton outer jackets. This North Sea Clothing Submariner has the same drop shoulder and the same neck reinforcement as the Original Royal Navy Issue sweaters.
At first the wide knitted waistband might feel a bit strange and it can takes some time to get used to it but there is a reason for it to keep a snug fit around the waist that will keep the wind and at the same time make sure that you keep warm. There is a reason behind the fact that this kind of sweatshirt was used by sir Edmund Hillary and his expedition crew climbing Mount Everest in 1953 among others. Always remember that wool is the only fibre that will keep you warm even when wet and in some situations it can be the difference between life and death.
