Pure Blue Japan XX-019-WID 14oz Relaxed Tapered Raw Deep Indigo Jeans

Pure Blue Japan was founded in the historic city of Kurashiki in 1997 and is today considered one of the most well renowned brands when it comes to making denim in Japan. Pure Blue Japan has always been about making interesting fabrics. They use a low tension production method woven on vintage shuttle looms using only the finest cotton from Okayama. The leaf symbol embroidered on the right back pocket is a indigo leaf from the "Persicaria Tinctoria" plant, also known as the Japanese indigo plant.

XX-019 has a high waist with some space for the tights and tapers the further down the leg you come making it a slim fitting pair of jeans below the knee. It's a perfect fit if you prefer a slim silhouette but still like to wear a high waisted and comfortable pair of jeans.

Made in a Japanese 14 oz selvage fabric in a nice deep dark blue indigo shade. The fabric has a natural irregular texture due to the low tension weaving process that PBJ is known for. It brings you a fabric that is very unique and that will show its texture in a great way when worn for a long time. In these jeans both the weft and the warp has been dyed in indigo, resulting in a pair of jeans that almost looks like its been dyed in blue ink. When you examine the fabric up close one can see that there is a white core inside each thread! This is the key behind the high contrast fading that will emerge when worn for a while. It will leave some areas deep blue while others will show the natural color of the cotton as soon as the indigo starts to fade away due to mechanical distress. 

The slubbyness of this fabric is achieved by two factors. One is that the yarn used is uneven which adds to the lively texture. The other is that it is woven with a low tension warp, a process that adds a natural variation in how the texture will appear on the finished product. Further, the looms and the spinning machines owned by PBJ are old vintage ones that takes years to learn to operate and master!

Hemming is always included when you purchase a pair of jeans from us! Give us a comment during check out and we will shorten them before we send them. Keep in mind that you won't be able to return the jeans if we alter the length for you.

For hemming, we'll use a vintage Union Special chain stitch sewing machine, to match the original seam of the jeans.

All measurements are in centimeters and measured on a flat surface. The thigh measurements are taken 10 centimeters down from the crotch straight across the pant leg.
