Sugar Cane is a Japanese brand focusing on reconstructing the early days of vintage workwear history. The brand has roots that goes back to the 1950's but it wasn't until the late 80's that Sugar Cane started building the reputation for being one of the best denim makers in Japan and it is a well earned reputation they still deserve!
This is Sugar Cane's version of a 1950's/60's western snap button denim shirt. Western shirts back in the day were often seen in satin with big embroideries and fringes. The real, hard working cowboys needed something more rugged and durable and fabrics like denim, flannel and chambray were used instead. The snap buttons used are decorative but actually serves a very important purpose. If stuck, in for instance a bulls horns, snap buttons opens easily compared to regular sewn on buttons. A simple detail made to avoid accidents.
This Western shirt is made from a dobby stripe fabric woven with 20-count warp and weft threads. The navy version features a gradient of dark, medium, and light indigo, and a distinctive dobby weave that resembles a cross pattern to create contrast. The black version uses a sulfur-dyed black base with a gradient of three shades of gray, and the addition of red emphasizes the contrast. The cut is based on the "Lot No. SC29180" from the 1950s and 60s vintage styles, and each version is expected to age beautifully over time.
Dan is 188 cm tall, weighs 84 kilos and wears a size L. He combines the shirt with a pair of Indigofera Wyatt in Uneven Broken Twill Rinsed & a pair of vintage Justin Teju boots.
