Here comes a rare garment to say the least and through our 14 years as a store we have never sold one of these jackets before!
This jacket is known as the M/1943 Maskinväst, which translates to Machine Vest. This is interesting, since it´s clearly a jacket. We heard that this jacket was used by the personel that shoveled coal to keep the ships running.
This jacket is made of a thick black cotton canvas fabric, the body is fully lined with wool, while the arms are unlined. Maybe this is why it is called a vest.
The jacket is quite short and boxy and it has a double buttoning at the front, just like a peacoat. So that you can button against the wind, to keep you warm. It also has a cinch at the back, to provide a good fit. The jacket has the Tre Kronor emblem stamped on the inside and a tag that says N 96 M. The jacket also has two front pockets.
We estimate it to fit like a modern small. Please see our measurements below to better understand the size.
The condition is Deadstock, but some signs of storage can be found. Not so strange since the jacket might be 80 years old.
